- 4 Tablespoons butter
- 1/2 a large sweet onion, peeled and grated
- 1/2 Cup prepared yellow mustard (the stuff in the bottle, not the powder)
- 1/2 Cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 Cup cider vinegar
- 2 Tablespoons dry mustard (the powder, not the stuff in the bottle)
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt to taste
Heat the butter in a saucepan until it foams. Add the onions and saute for 3 to 4 minutes until they are translucent, but without browning them. Medium heat is your friend.
Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer for 10 minutes. The sauce should be thick.
